Charles' advice is perhaps a bit extreme. Yes, you risk losing you work if you save to a flash drive then don't use the 'safe removal' process before removing it, but it's quite safe if you do use that process. The problem was quite acute in the days of floppy disk drives but, now they've gone the way of the dinosaur, it's quite safe with multi-gigabyte USB drives of all persuasions. Your "Not Responding" issue in this thread most likely concerns a USB drive whose contents have been corrupted by not going through the 'safe removal' process before removing it.

Thanks for your response. I have been working from and saving to a USB drive for a long time. That has not corrupted my files. I am on Windows 10 and this is a brand new problem.
However, I posted a new thread today about getting "Not responding" without a USB drive involved. My best guess is that it is the result of a new MS update. |
