What kind of dropdown (content control, formfield, ActiveX)?

Can you follow the discussion there?
I don't quite understand what it was talking about honestly. I guess I need to research more info on what Content Control does and how it works.

Form Field. Ultimately what I'm trying to do is have a column with drop down answer choices to questions and a corresponding column that will give the chosen answers a value of 1, 2, or 3.

Thank you for any assistance! If there's a web page or a subject topic you can point me towards that I could read up on that would help me understand and solve my issue I'd be eternally grateful!
