Is that true of another template?


If the default action is Open rather than New, for all templates, then I would try Quick Repair (takes 5 - 10 mins) , if that doesn't help then try Online Repair (Takes more than 30 mins but less than 1 hour in general)

If it is the default for this template but not others, I would open the template and use File > Save As to save it as a dotx template again.

Replying Because I am having the same issue. Right clicking a .dotx file shows "Edit" as the darkened default option. Right clicking an excel template (.xltx) has "New" as the default option and opens a new spreadsheet as desired.

I already ran quick repair (no effect) and plan on running online repair tonight when I leave work.

Using Windows 10 Pro and Office 365.
