Press Alt+F9 to toggle the display of field codes. Alternatively, click File | Options | Advanced and clear the check box next to "Show field codes instead of their values."

Table of Contents not generating correctly
Thanks for the settings tip. My settings must have gotten changed somehow. Changed it back and it appears correctly.
The only problem I have now is the indents. In my sample document, the indents are correct but in my real document, the indents are reversed. Is there another setting for that? See attached.
