Since when did you need to save to OneDrive to have autosave on? They've basically taken a feature away from users unless they comply with storing all their documents on OneDrive? That's kinda crap. Autosave is a pretty basic feature of many programs.

Note that AutoSave is a relatively new feature in Word/Office. In older versions all you had was the "Save AutoRecover information every X minutes" option, which is quite different and intended for cases when Word has crashed.

First, don't shoot the messenger(s)! Second, AutoSave is new to Word, relatively, and only functions with cloud storage. The AutoRecover function is a very different thing and has been around for more than a decade. See Graham Mayor's page Automatically backup Word documents for more. For many of us who work with long and complex documents, we want to be able to decide when to save. Graham also has a versioning software Add-In for those who want various versions. Save in two places These are functions that have never been available in Word out-of-the-box. And, yes, Microsoft could be a lot clearer about this than it is. |
