Since no-one else is reporting this error, it evidently has something to do with either your document, your Office installation, or your Windows setup. Accordingly, it's unlikely Microsoft would issue a patch to correct a flaw affecting just one person. Your contention "this bug (possibly linked to File Explorer) has been happening for years" is unfounded, especially given your original claim that "It just started happening about two week ago".

If the problem affects just one document, it's possible the document has acquired some of corruption. Corrupt documents can often be 'repaired' by inserting a new, empty, paragraph at the very end, copying everything except that new paragraph to a new document based on the same template (headers & footers may need to be copied separately), closing the old document and saving the new one over it.

If the problem all affects documents based on the same template, it's possible the template has acquired some of corruption. Except for Word's 'Normal' template, corrupt templates can be repaired in much the same way as one would repair documents. With Word's 'Normal' template, the simplest approach is to navigate to:
Code:
C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\
and, with Word closed, rename the template. Word will then create a new one when you restart it. You can then copy any customisations, macros, etc., from the old template to the new one.

You might also try repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair).
