Default 2016 Word issue with SSD drive

Hi

I recently purchased Home student 2016 for the purpose of writing a novel and I'm using windows 10 which I installed on a new computer which I had assembled from components I bought separately and a SSD which I've never had before and it's so disappointing, folders taking so long to load and I had a few issues when I began writing using Word. The manuscript started to go completely white, just the written part of Word and I made sure I backed up every couple of pages to USB and a external Hard Drive but when I finished the novel and started to go over it again to correct my work the white screen just gets worse. Was wondering if you could help please. thanks so much.
