Paul,

I am not sure I get this. Should I use a switch in my bookmark? I have not been able to do that.

I entered this exactly -

February 13, 2018

as my bookmark named AdoptDate

then as my crossref

{ ref AdoptDate \@ mm-dd-yyyy ]

It showed -
