Default please help start page numbers on page 3

Hello,

Very frustrated with Microsoft right now.

I want to add page numbers to my document. I want page 1 to start on the third page. The first page is the cover, the second is the table of contents. The third is where the story actually begins. I want that to be page 1. This article here:

https://support.office.com/en-us/art...7cc0420e8c#bm2

...explains how to start page numbers of page 2. You essential start the page numbers at 0, and tell it not to add pages numbers until page 2. I thought, well there's no reason page numbers can't start at page 3. All I have to do is start the numbering at -1 and tell it not to display until page 3... no. Negative numbers are not allowed.

If Microsoft's goal is to make their software as inflexible as possible, they deserve an award.

So my question is: how do I start the page number on the third page? That is, on the third page, I'd like to see '3' at the bottom. On the fourth page, I'd like to see '2' at the bottom. On the fifth page... etc., etc., etc.

This must be possible. Please help.

Starting the page numbering at Page 3 is simple and can be achieved in a number of ways thanks to Microsoft's flexible programming.

I assume that ' I'd like to see '3' at the bottom' was a typo. and sould have read ' I'd like to see '1' at the bottom' ?

Add a section break at the end of page two. Open the footer view. Unlink the footers and put the page numbers in the new section footer only. Restart the numbering from 1. (Format Page Numbers)

Yes... yes it was.

Your suggestion works gmayor, but is there a way to insert a section break without shoving the text down?
