Unhappy Table of contents - unwanted spaces

Hi,

when I try to generate a table of contents, the main parts (title 1 style) add a unwanted empty space.

http://www.imagehosting.cz/?v=vstiektgt.png

I opened style setting used for that titles. Only it is in czech, so I hope it will help to find a solution.

Even all of the styles of "table of contents" keep adding these spaces.

If you could attach a sample document with the problem it would help. You should remove any confidential or proprietary information.

I agree with Charles completely in that providing a sample (without privacy data) would go a long way in understanding your issue. Having said that, if I were to guess from your .png link, it looks as though there is a TAB set within the TOC 1 just prior to the dot leader. If that is correct, you could remove that particular tab and the TOC 1 would revert back to what it should be. AGAIN, that is a guess.

Hope it works. (upload of the file)

I deleted 70% of the work. There are just basic chapters, which can show my problem.

Thanks for any help.

My guess is that it must be a problem related to numbering the chapters (as we had some problems with continue the sequence of numbers - dunno how we solve it - but i think that particular thing generated this problem). Anyway nothing helps anymore. Deleting the number of chapter doesn't solve the issue. My bad that we (it is my gf work) worked on the homework and i generated that list of contents few days later. So i dont remember what could cause the problem.

After looking at your attachment, it does look as though you have a TOC1 tab inserted at 2.65". If you reset that TOC 1 tab to 0.25", your problem will go away for that particular issue.

I am not sure I follow.

Could you be more specific? (language barrier here :/ ) If i understand correctly, your advice is to delete TAB that somehow showed in TOC. If i do that, and then center the number of the page to the right.. it will make this (see attachment).

It could work, if i chose not to use underline. But in my case, it still looks stupid.

OR.. I don't understand you correctly and your solution is different.

Edit: now i realized that this "scenario" is the same as i posted in my first screenshot So the problem here is the same as the problem in first post. The doc file attached is just "one step back" in my trying to fix the issue.

No, you currently have a tab inserted at 2.65" of the TOC 1 style. If you reset that tab from the 2.65" to 0.25" it will move the text that currently starts in the middle of the TOC to the left (or, at 0.25") where it should be. (Or, another option would be to insert a new tab at 0.25", then delete the existing tab at 2.65").

I have taken your file (attached) and only corrected the tab in question. You can see the result.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I found that setting, so it's fixed. You saved my gf's homework.
