Default Force one line functions using equation editor

Every time I type in the following in Microsoft Word Equation Editor:

E/\rho

I get a regular looking fraction with E on top and rho on the bottom. However this is not my intention. I would like to force microsoft word equation editor to display it as a one liner with E/rho. That is in one line.

How do I stop Microsoft Word from automatically reshaping my fractions when I don't want it to?
