Ok, I'm stupid and and show it.

I have a laptop that my wife types dictation on.

We need to burn these files to a cd to load on her computer.

Have tried to burn, it says all went ok, but can't open file on her computer.

My laptop has MS office word 2007,
her computer has MS office Word 2007.

So you are trying to burn a microsoft word document file onto a CD... why not transfer the files with a Flash Drive. If you do not own one you can buy them very cheaply online. Burning CDs can sometimes cause problems.

Your CD drive may be designed for only CD-R (recordables) instead of CD-RWs (re-writeables). What does the CD label say on the top of the CD (CD-R or CD-RW)?

When you pop the CD into the target computer - can you see the files in Windows Explorer? D: drive? Do they have the .docx extension?

I know with DVD's you have to finalize the dvd before another unit can read it - is there any finalize for the cd you created? Are you using Windows Explorer to create the CD? You know put the cd in the drive - then open with windows explorer - copy and paste the files there - then right click and burn to CD.

You could try saving the Word files in 2003-97 format - then try and open on the other laptop?

ok, I do have va flash drive, just never use it.

Do I save the file to a different folder then put it on the flash drive or what, how.?

I never use the Flash Drive either, but I think you just use Windows Explorer and drag and drop the file.

There are so many things that can do wrong with burning a CD, it's hard to know which one you are experiencing. Whatever is tripping you up probably has nothing to do with Word.

Rather than all of that, I would just email the file as an attachment.

Saving to a flash drive is simple. Just plug in the drive to a port on your computer and then open the document you wish to transfer. Hit Save As, and save onto the flash drive (it should appear as one of the options on the scroll menu). Once it saves, you just plug the flash drive into the second computer and open it to view all the saved docs.
