No you are missing the point.
I have a document called AAA.docx I create a document template based on this and save it as BBB.dotx. Every time I open the dotx and do a save as it will ALWAYS SAY save as AAA.docx NOT BBB.docx It will NEVER use the name the DOTX was saved as, only the name of the original file the DOTX was used to create the DOTX
