This is a situation/problem which has occurred in Word 2010 and 2016. When I paste in numbered paragraph text from another source, and select "Continue Numbering" Word will continue the numbering sequence but also moves the text over to the right (which then I have to correct). Is this just something that MS will never fix...or do I have to fix something (am I doing something wrong)? It would be so much easier if it would just actually just change the number leave the rest alone.

"other source?"
I'm surprised you get anything to happen. |

Well from another Word document (other source wasn't the best choice of words).

Use a Paragraph format and this won't happen.

As a quick fix, you can click in a paragraph where numbering is correct and press Ctrl+Shift+C; this copies the paragraph-level formatting of the paragraph. Select the problematic paragraphs and press Ctrl+Shift+V to paste the formatting you just copied.
Long-term, though, you will find it easier to set up a numbered style and apply it to text.
