If you have Office 2007 updated to SP3, you have the most recent version which includes the PDF functionality, which at best is rudimentary compared with Acrobat. In what way does Acrobat 'screw up your Word settings'? There is no better tool than Acrobat (apart from the latest version of Acrobat, I guess, though version 9 was just as capable of producing PDF documents).
