Use the LAYOUT tab then use the MERGE section of the tab to split cells/tables. When using that option, remember that you have to highlight the cell(s) in order to define the how you want the split in the subsequent menu.

Thanks for the response, but I tried that before and I tried it again after reading your response and it does not let me create any more rows than were merged.
