You are correct that "Save as PDF" has no such settings, so I don't see how that could explain that particular behavior.
But, even stranger... when I double-checked the Foxit Reader PDF printer (without changing any settings on anything), it printed normally. And then I tested "Save as PDF" and *IT* worked normally too!! Sunspots maybe? Chemtrails? Gremlins?
