Exclamation Word Cannot Edit the Document Template Error

Help

I received the above message error in title, I was trying to add page numbers to a large document, cannot do this to any documents I have but was able to a few days ago. Cannot edit documents, add images, etc. Is the template corrupt, or something? Stumped.

Did some research, said to delete normal.dot file in template subfolder, there were two of them. Said Word would recreate it when restarted. It didn't.

I see there is some protection ideas to be changed in registry, I can do that, but have not yet. Figured I'd wait for some other options. Can reload Office, it was preinstalled on HD, have User code. Not sure how to do that, it should be in the archive partition on HD I think, options here to.

Windows 10 64 bit

MS Word Home and Student Version 10.

Have not tried anything in Excel or other MS apps. Just Word so far.

thanks for any help.

Greg
