ASK fields only populate a bookmark. They do not display any content; for that you'd need to use a cross-reference to the bookmark and update it after completing the ASK field. If you want the input to display, consider using a FILLIN field.

Regardless, your introduction of 'merge' terminology makes it quite unclear what it is you're trying to do, as that terminology normally applies to mailmerges.
