There are numerous possibilities. You may have:
• changed the keyboard layout to a language other than English. To reset the keyboard layout see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306560 • touched the Ctrl key while pressing the apostrophe key, which creates a shortcut to an accented letter. For example, Ctrl-',e generates é. • a USB keyboard, for which pressing Ctrl-Shift changes its configuration.
