Default "must be a number between"

Colleague rolls up sleeves to start adding/deleting comments with Track changes.

Colleague selects block of text to apply local formatting.

Colleague asks me "why is Word displaying a message about 'must be a number between …'? I'm not trying to enter any numeric values."

I pass the question on to you …

[there may be answers in the forum already, but the search option discards most of the term "must be a number between"]

Because there is a finite limit to the font sizes that can be applied to text.

Perhaps in the act of rolling up his/her sleeves, the colleague clicked on the font size field.

I'll check with the colleague in question … but as far as I remember, the focus was not on the font-size field when I went to take a look over his shoulder.

The error message may indicate document corruption. If you add a paragraph by pressing Enter at the end of the file and then copy the content, minus the new paragraph, and paste into a new file, does the error message go away?

If pasting (almost) all content, as suggested above, does not work, try copying smaller portions of the document systematically (for example, half the document, then half of that, etc.) until you no longer see the error message.

Thanks for the suggestion. If colleague comes back to that document and hits the same problem, I'll take a look at these "de-corrupting" techniques.
