I would add a caption to each picture, perhaps formatted to be 1 point and white. Then use the StyleRef Field to pull the information into your Header.
You may also be able to format your pictures to be in front of text, hiding the captions. I have not tried this latter idea and do not know. References that may help: Insert a Caption - Complex Documents Header/Footer Settings Recap Numbering in Microsoft Word
