Unhappy Evil --------across page that won't leave

I used a *** as a "new scene" break. Word decided to turn it into a ---across the entire page and I can't get rid of it. I tried cutting, deleting, and going above the line to delete. Nothing is working. Help please.

Thank you Macropod but it doesn't work because the affected content can't be selected.

I was right about evil. I turned off my laptop. Reopened Word and tried your suggestion again and it worked! XOXOXO

Glad you got it fixed. For anyone running across this at a later time, the line can't be selected, but the preceding and following paragraphs, to which the border is applied, can be selected.
