I have a document with a table with picture boxes. (This document was not built by me, I'm just trying to fix the new version that was sent to me to make it work as well as the old document witch suddenly stopped working last week. Microsoft update??) In the old version I could click on the square in the middle of the box and it would open up another dialogue box with 3 options for inserting a picture: From a File, Bing Image search, and OneDrive. From there I could drive to the file and select the image to be inserted. The image would fit itself to the size of the picture box inserted into the table. It was quick and easy. In the new version of the document I have to use INSERT>PICTURE and resize the image every time. It now takes an hour to do what only took 5 or 10 minutes. PLEASE help me to format it back to the old way. My new document is not protected and I can alter it in any way.

Presumably your document had Picture Content controls; I have no idea what it now has. If the document has been saved in the older doc format at any time, the Picture Content controls would have been wiped out.
