help with page numbering and headers

I'm trying to insert headers starting on the fourth page of my document. Also I need to start the page numbering on the fourth page as well. I already have a header and page number so I need to delete it and start over. I want to place the page number at the bottom of the page. I cant seem to get them on the same page without having one or the other show up on another page. Also I would like to place text on every other page on the left side and different text on every other page on the right side. Like the format of a book where you see the authors name on the left page and the name of the book on the right side of the other page.
