There is nothing apparently wrong with your document. There are two field fin the footer - PAGE & NUMPAGES. Pressing Alt-F9 will display:
Page { PAGE } of { NUMPAGES } These fields should update automatically as pages are added or deleted, and do so with your document in my testing.
