See StyleRef Field. Apply a character style to your Content Control, use a StyleRef field in the footer.
An alternative is to use a Document Property Content Control as set forth in Repeating Data (Populating Multiple Like Fields). (Search the article for "Document Property.") Those are two quick methods that people have found useful.
