Default jumping to a character position in Word

Is there a way to jump or goto or move ahead in Word a specific number of characters? Pressing the right kay is very slooowww.

I have an external program that has identified regions of interest based on a character count and I would like to open the document in Word and jump to a location based on the character count. I see the goto fields, however, none seem to be character based.

Any hints appreciated.

Unless a new field was snuck into Office 2003/2007 without my knowledge, there is no way to, without some sort of VBA Macro...

macros allow you to move (Up/Down/Left/Right) on a character, word, line or paragraph basis - so something done programatically might be an answer for you - depending on your actual needs for the functionality you are looking for...
