Multilevel List Numbers Vertical Alignment Issue
I could have sworn I was pretty good with Word, but this has me stumped. I can't figure out why my list's numbers are not aligning vertically. The text that follows each is properly aligned, though. I noticed the issue after I changed the number format on some of the levels (e.g., I didn't want "a)" to follow "1.").
Here's a picture of what I'm talking about (NOTE that I left aligned all of the levels to help illustrate my issue -- the vertical misalignment holds true when the different levels are at half-inch intervals too): Can anyone help? If it makes a difference, note that I've assigned each level a style to help make a TOC later. |

How are you setting up your numbering. See How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly

I started with one of the built-in multilevel lists. After I set up the format of the text following the numbers/letters of the list (I wanted them in CTRL+Shift+A all caps so the sections would appear as regular text in my TOC), I highlighted each list level and added it as a new style. Then, I changed the format of a couple of the list levels (for example, I changed the built-in default "a)" to "i.").
Sometime after, I noticed the misalignment. Tried everything I know to fix it, but no dice. To explain my actions above, the document I'm trying to create is a journal article that liberally uses multi-level headings. I want those to appear in an update-able table of contents (hence the use of styles). Does that help? Happy to provide any other information. |

Click in the first Heading 1 paragraph of the document and then click Home | Multilevel List | Define New Multilevel List. In the dialog box, adjust the settings for indentation for the relevant numbering levels. For details, see Shauna Kelly's article at http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...g20072010.html.
