Default is it possible to replace a bullet with "1.09"?

hey MS Word Experts,

does anyone know of a way to create a bullet which is literally a two or three character phrase?
Ie:

1.09 Sample Text
1.09 More Sample Text
1.09 Still More Sample Text

My intention: I am going through very large quantities of recordings from a music recording session and have made large lists, a sample of which I have copied below. I’d be nice if I could replace those black-dot-bullets with actual text, like what i mentioned above “1.09” for example. I’ll spare you the additional thinking behind this, and just ask the main question again:

can i replace the black dots of a bullet, with a text which stays constant like “1.11” for example? (the first digit stands for 'recording session', the second for the 'take'.)

many thanks for your time!

Peter

You could use a picture representing the appropriate numbering as a “bullet”.
But the most practical would probably be to remove the bulleting altogether and create a 2-column table with the numbers in the left column (a specific row for each specific number). The right column would include only the corresponding music labels.
HTH.

I believe it's possible to use autonumbering to insert a text slug instead of a bullet; but someone else will have to tell you where to set this up :-} still, it's a clue ...

If the bullets have been inserted manually, you could use Find/Replace, where:
Find = ^0149
Replace = 1.11
but it's not clear from your post whether you want some form of sequential numbering.

“^0149” will only catch ordinary bullets inserted as ordinary characters. If the bullets have been inserted through automatic bulleting, the CTRL+F dialog won’t find them.

Of course, but the OP did describe them as 'black-dot-bullets' and that is what is in his post.

apologies for disappearing!! had a family emergency that i had to take care of..

and..thank you all very much for your kind answers!!!

so..i’m going for a non-sequential system of ‘notes’ where each paragraph has, as previously suggested as an example: “1.09” as the header. Then the next paragraph will have “1.10” as a header. This is kind of in the grey area of the: is this sequential or not sequential.

I think that Robert2’s suggestion is really very good - i think i’m going to try this!

But the most practical would probably be to remove the bulleting altogether and create a 2-column table with the numbers in the left column (a specific row for each specific number). The right column would include only the corresponding music labels.

many thanks again for your kind (and very good!) suggestions. if i run into any more difficulties...i’ll post again

cheers!

Can you make an image of "1.09" in Microsoft Paint (or any image software)? Then apply it as a new bullet type. Click the bulleting down arrow in your Home ribbon, then select Define New Bullet, and navigate to the image. That becomes your new bullet.

If you use styles, it's really easy to just define that style as bulleted text with a 1.09 image as the bullet. Then apply it to whatever text you need.
