can I index or convert old msworks files to be searchable?
I have thousands of files going back to 1988, which were created in old versions of msworks. I can open them with Word 2010, though they have some wonky code at the top of the files. BUT, when I want to search through my files for a name or a word, those files apparently are not indexed and do not show up on the search (the filename will show, but not words in the documents).
For the files created in Works 4.0 and later (in my case, 1999-2005), I have been able to batch-convert them to MS Word using a previous generation of Word. But I have not been able to find any batch-conversion programs that can handle files from a generation earlier than Works 3.0 (Graham Mayor's site had the necessary files to convert that far back, but no farther).
So... does anyone know how I can either batch-convert the older files into later versions that are searchable, or get the indexing system to read them?
