Word freezes and prevents me from copying and pasting document

Here's what's going on with my Word 2013. I am on the Internet and I find an article that I want to keep so I highlight it, minimize, open a Word document, paste the article into the Word document, and here's where the fun begins--I am using Microsoft 8.1.



When I click on save as and click on computer and then click on desktop, the little wheel or donut or whatever it is called starts to spin and spin and spin. Nothing else happens. I either have to shut down my laptop or restart it. It is completely frozen. This happens every single time for the last 3 or so months. Nobody has been able to figure out why.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before I have a stroke. Thank you.
