Hi
A quick query. Sometimes when I track an insertion and then delete it, the tracked insertion is struck through [del]as so[/del] rather than simply disappearing. Can anyone tell me why? (Sorry, was trying to strike through the 'as so' above, but am not sure how!) Thanks Bertie |

Because the insertion was change one and the deletion was change two. You have made two changes and Word is tracking both. If you want it to simply disappear, you need to accept both changes.

But I just tracked 'sss' in a random document and then deleted it - the text disappeared without having to accept tracks, so there must be more to it than that.

You have more time than do I, I am afraid. I suspect that where it shows both changes it thinks something else happened in between. I do not know.

What markup choice did you make in the Track Changes menu? If you choose No Markup, the changes are still tracked but do not show on the screen. If you choose All Markup, it will show additions and deletions. Maybe in the document that did not show deletion of SSS you chose No Markup.

This is happening in the same document. This has happened on and off over the years, but I only asked this time round because it became an issue. My basic question is:
in what circumstances is text both tracked as an insertion and struck through when mark-up is showing? (I would have thought - and it's normally the case - that if I add text in mark-up, it's tracked in underline; then if I change my mind and delete that same text in mark-up it disappears rather than strike-through being added to the underline.) |
