Default Bullets and Numbering

In Word 2013, I have suddenly lost the ability to create bullets and numbering in documents. That choice is no longer in the drop-down menu when I select a section of text and right-click. Is there a way to restore this?

FWIW, I can still do this in Word 2010 without any issue.

Thanks

It is not just you or your installation. They removed those commands from the context menu. Although it may surprise you, this is probably an improvement. Except for the most simple documents, you never want to use that kind of numbering or bullets.

Automatic numbering in Word has been problematic since Word 97, at least. There are a number of good ways to do it, but that numbering button is NOT one of them. Numbering in Microsoft Word

If you really want to, you can add it back to the text context menu. (Learning how to do it correctly through outline numbering attached to styles is easier, though.)

In Word 2013-16, there is an option to switch Style Sets on the Design Tab. The Black and White Numbered styles set gives you a good set for numbering in one way, at least, that is tied to the heading styles. You can change the formatting of these styles so they look the way you want but retain their numbering characteristics.

Also, both of these still are available on the Home tab in the paragraph group.
