Text boxes are essentially graphical elements and their use has as many disadvantages as advantages.



This paragraph simply has a border and background fill as paragraph formatting. It remains part of the text layer (important if using fields which frequently don't work as expected in text boxes).

You can combine the two approaches by using frames, which are a type of paragraph formatting and thus form part of the text layer of the document, but include some text box attributes like wrapping. Frames can also be configured to grow.

The most common use in Word of a frame is the envelope address block used by the envelope function. You can add the frame command to the QAT as it is not present on the ribbon.

The attached modification to your document shows all three types of boxed text, plus a table cell which represents another similar option.
