How to number pictures and resources in word for automatic numbering, when adding material between??

I am writing diploma work for school. Want to set up automatic numbering for resources and pictures, when I am referring them in the text. So later after I add stuff in the middle, they will automatically increment. Otherwise I have to do it manually after the added material.

Please help. Thanks...
