I have been frustrated with the issue of the first line of the document is indented. I've tried a lot of things.

Sorry, but it is unlikely anyone will be able to help from the screenshot.
The line to the left may be a line or it could be a textbox border. In any case, it is a graphic. It is moving your text over. This graphic should be in the first-page header rather than on the page for things to work smoothly.
