I got a new PC yesterday (Win10) and am giving Word 2016 a try. One maddening thing I've discovered is that when spell checking a very long document, it doesn't seem to retain the changes I've made, so that after I close the document and then re-open it, the same words and errors are once again, highlighted. Even when I add to the word to the dictionary, it still pops up after I've saved an re-opened the doc.
I'm sure this is an easy fix that I'm oblivious to. Any help will be appreciated. .tmid_modified { background: #E4F1FD !important; border: 1px solid #3385D6 !important; } .tmid_modifying { background: #E4F1FD !important; } .tmid_popoutblock { display: table; position: absolute; top: 1px; left: 1px; visibility: hidden; width: 120px; height: 40px; background-color: #FFFFFF; z-index: 9999; color: #666666; font-size: 16px; box-shadow: 0px 5px 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.25); text-shadow: 1px 0px 0px rgba(170, 170, 170, 1); }.tmid_formFillHint { display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; font-size: 16px; }.tmid_icon { width: 24px; height: 24px; }.tmid_popoutblockicon { display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; width: 24px; height: 24px; padding: 8px 8px 8px 8px; } |

I had checked that article before I posted. Thank you for your reply, though.

Is there perhaps supposed to be a screen shot or other graphic attached to your first post?

"changes I've made" as in typing "Ignore?" "changes I've made" as in accepting a suggested change in a word? "Close the document?" Saved the document? I would guess that saved is implied by your next part. Quote:
Because Word seems to be one of my hobbies, I will eventually get Word 2016 but I've been burned too many times by MS releasing stuff on the market that isn't reallly quite ready. When I got Office 2007 I quickly uninstalled it. I currently have Word 2007 installed on my computer for testing but didn't start really using a Ribbon version until 2010. I still prefer 2010 over 2013 for most purposes. |

Thank you Charles, for your response. After I posted, I stumbled upon a thread on a Microsoft site, where an author had the same complaint. An "expert" admitted the issue and explained that there's no way to change it. When the author pointed out that the problem didn't exist on 2003's version, the conversation stopped.
Apparently, the only way to "fix" the issue is to stop spell check from running in specific blocks of texts (a pain if you're dealing with hundreds of pages). It's a shame they can't fix something so glaringly obvious. |

Could you post a link to the other thread here? That way people finding this thread will be led to that one.

This is the quote from the "expert" (altho he is incorrect, as it worked in '97 and '03 versions): Its not going to work in any version because when click Ignore it is only saved in temporary memory and not on the hard disc. This is how Word works. In addition, even if you click ignore and send the file to someone else, they will see the mistakes. Any version of Word or in any other software IGNORE feature functions in the same pattern. This is design and not a problem where a fix can be provided. |
