I designed a document with a table in it, protected it ("read" only) and then highlighted sections (table cells) that need to be edited. I then started Protection.
The problem occurred when I tested the document. In the table cells that needed to be edited, when I inserted a new word and then hit the space bar, it acted like I had inserted a "tab." There was a large amount of space between the 1st word and the next word after hitting the space bar. It really is unuseable this way. Does anyone know why it does this and how to fix it? dwciardi Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 09-30-2015 at 01:05 PM. Reason: changed title to give more info - marked as solved |

I tried to repeat your problem and that did not happen. I created a table and below the table added some words. I set entire document to read only and then select a few cells in table and set it so that everyone can edit those cells. I protected the document with now password and saved it. I then closed it and opened it. I typed in a word in one of the cells then hit space bar and I just got a space.
What happens if you create a new document and do what I did above? See if you can recreate this in a new document. There may just be something wrong with that document. |

Bingo!! I copied the document, then made it read only and then started protection - and tried it. This time - I was able to type in the unprotected fields with no problems! That other document must have been corrupted. Thanks, trainingclc! |

I'm glad you found an answer. It sounds to me like the formatting in the table cells may have been set to be justified.
