Default Creating borders around images

Microsoft Office 2013 seems to have removed the ability to place a border around an image in a Word document. You used to be able to highlight the image, right click, select Format Picture, and apply a border. Voila.

Now when you right click and select Format Picture a window opens to the right of the document, and gives you options to add shadows and 3D, etc., but the border option is gone.

So I went to the ribbon, and selected Borders and Shading. I was able to apply the border that way. However, I need to apply a specific color to the border and have to repeat this step a bazillion times, so it took me too many keystrokes to get what I needed, especially compared with how easy it used to be.

I then tried to create a macro to consolidate all those keystrokes into one icon click, but the macro function doesn't permit you to select the image, and if you select it before you begin, it UNSELECTS it when you start the macro. Total fail.

So I thought I would create the macro without selecting anything - I began recording, applied the appropriate style to the paragraph I was in, and then clicked Borders and Shading to apply the correct border.

When I tried it on the image, it created a table cell around the image, and placed the border around THAT instead of the image. So a macro isn't an option.

Did Microsoft just hide the option to put borders around images? Or is it completely gone now, except for Borders and Shading on the ribbon?

I don't know if Word 2013 changed this process but, this should help you:

Left-click on the graphic and then click on the Picture Tools FORMAT ribbon. Click on the Picture Border drop-down menu to format your border.

That's what I meant when I said I clicked Borders and Shading. That's on the Picture Tools Format ribbon. It's the only option they left us, and it's buried under too many keystrokes. But thanks anyway.

They also did away with Save as PDF, and you can no longer automatically Save As your file to the directory it lives on. You now have to navigate through folders until you get there, and only when you're there does the Save As dialog open so you can view the file name. This makes me crazy because I'm always clicking Save As to copy file names to paste into my work log and the Subject field of messages, and you can't do that anymore without clicking and clicking until you get to the directory.

I've been using Word since 1992, and Office 2013 is possibly the most irritating upgrade I've lived through. I reverted back to 2010 on my home computer, but I don't have that option at work, where I need it most. Sigh.
