![]() Has anyone come across a situation wherein the keyboard shortcuts for turning ON bold and italics will work, but the repeat keystrokes for turning them OFF will not work? This is in more recent versions of Word (10 and 12, I think) in either Windows 7 or 8(point whatever). Any suggestions to correct this would be much appreciated. |

I have never seen the behaviour you describe in any Word version, and I have used all Windows versions of Word up to & including Word 2010 on everything from Windows 3 to Windows 8.1.

G'day macropod and thank you for your reply.
It is a strange thing that I have had recently and has occurred since I installed a couple of templates (simple ones for three different types of formatting) on both mine and the computers (business) of a friend. We run different versions of both Windows and Word, but all recent versions (as mentioned above) and this has been an unwanted part of the equation. I was hoping that someone might have an answer, preferably a simple one! As the famous ad went and we say Down Under, 'bugger'! ![]() |

In the Customize Keyboard dialog box, see which commands are assigned to the Ctrl+B and Ctr+I shortcuts, respectively.
To display the dialog box, click the Customize button at File | Options | Customize Ribbon.

Stefan, you are brilliant mate! Thank you.
![]() It turned out that I had *somehow* changed the Ctrl-B and Ctrl-I keys to Ctrl-Shift-B and Ctrl-Shift-I !! Bizarre and I don't remember doing it, but I must have! ![]() Strange how they worked for turning the toggle ON but not OFF though! ![]() Anyway, many thanks again from this humble Aussie sheila. ![]() |

Well, not all commands are toggles. For example, if a shortcut applies a character style which is set to Bold, pressing the shortcut repeatedly will only (re-)apply the formatting once more.
Anyway, I'm glad you got it sorted.

Sorry, Stefan, my bad use of words. Perhaps I should've said 'shortcut' or 'feature' instead of 'toggle'! I know what you mean though.
Thanks again for your help. ![]() |
