Default Need to install older version but have 2013 installed

I'm having a bit of a problem. The people I work for have Office 2007 installed on their office computer. I have Office 2013 installed on my home computer and I do all my work at home. I don't want to uninstall 2013 just so I can be compatible with theirs, so I guess my question is, can I install Office 2007 and still keep my office 2013. I have a my own Office 2007 so there is no problem there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Office 2007 files are fully compatible with Office 2013, so you don't need to install Office 2007 just to work with Office 2007 files.

I know most if not all programs are backwards compatible but if I do a document in 2013 will 2007 open it? That's my problem.

Yes. And, provided you don't use new functionality introduced with Word 2013 (e.g. linked content controls), Word 2007 will process it in the same way.

One other 2013 feature to avoid is the checkbox content control.

Not responsive to your question, but it is quite possible to have multiple versions of Word running on one computer. I have Word 97, 2003, 2007, 2010 & 2013 on mine. If you do this, you need to tweak the registry to prevent Word from reinstalling its settings each time you switch. The method is listed by Graham Mayor at Toolbars and Word 2007/2010 - dual version registry hack. Search the page for the words "registry hack" to find it.
