Sorry, I am not real clear myself on how this works. I just generally leave the parts I want them to be able to edit as exceptions for Everyone. I think others that you unblock may have to be users on your computer or network but do not really know. Once I protect the document anyone can edit the exception parts and only someone with the password can edit the whole thing.
