Default recipients of form cannot fill out fields

I have created a fillable form in Word 2010 that I want to email to clients to fill out and return. I have found tons of information on how to do this, and nothing to help me with the problem I'm having, which is that my clients cannot figure out how to fill out the form. When I send it to myself, the download contains a warning that it is being opened in "protected view" because its coming from an internet source, and I have to click on "enable editing". My current client can download and open the attachment, but there is no obvious way for her to make the form work(she has a MAC).
This is not related to protecting the editing, I have restricted the form.
It has to be easy for anyone with anykind of program to open, or its useless to even send out. Help?
