This could be the result of left-over owner files (sometimes called lock files) on your system, although these usually don't trigger that specific error message. Try restarting Windows and then deleting temporary files as discussed in MVP Graham Mayor's article at http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm.
