I am operating with Microsoft Office for Mac I have a 200 page dissertation with several levels of headings.
I have gone through very carefully checking that the headings I want to include in the Table of Contents (toC) are the appropriate heading level. They all show up as correct but when I create a ToC specifying those levels, it seems entirely hit and miss whether the headings show up in the ToC. I have scrutinized the ones that are missing and compared them to the ones that aren't but found no obvious difference. I have googled around about this problem and found several discussions that talk about field codes which I know are important but don't really know how to work with. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this stubborn issue further and eventually correct, would be most appreciated. By the way, I have previously successfully used automatic ToCs with the same computer and software without running into this at all. Got me scratching my head and even losing my hair ![]() |
