Incomplete Table of Contents (Mac Office 2011)
I am operating with Microsoft Office for Mac I have a 200 page dissertation with several levels of headings.
I have gone through very carefully checking that the headings I want to include in the Table of Contents (toC) are the appropriate heading level. They all show up as correct but when I create a ToC specifying those levels, it seems entirely hit and miss whether the headings show up in the ToC. I have scrutinized the ones that are missing and compared them to the ones that aren't but found no obvious difference. I have googled around about this problem and found several discussions that talk about field codes which I know are important but don't really know how to work with. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this stubborn issue further and eventually correct, would be most appreciated. By the way, I have previously successfully used automatic ToCs with the same computer and software without running into this at all. Got me scratching my head and even losing my hair |

I have never used Office for Mac so the link that I am going to provide may be of no use to you...however, it also may be of help. With that in mind, here is the link:
http://shaunakelly.com/word/numberin...fcontents.html I use this data each time I create a document that requires a TOC and it never fails me. Hope this can help some... |

Thanks JimP - that's a good website but it doesn't have much on troubleshooting a really stubborn problem like mine. Lots of info out there on setting up a ToC from scratch but not much at all on diagnosing a sick ToC
Still looking for advice! |
