![]() Clicking on an empty part of the document will only work if "Enable click and type" is selected at File tab | Options | Advanced. However, it's better to use other means, such as paragraph spacing, to "move" on the page.

The thing is though, sometimes I can click an empty space below the paragraph to insert the cursor, even with click and type disabled. I'm trying to figure out what it is that makes it possible at times and at not at others. Thought someone else might have had a similar experience and figured it out.

What you describe suggests that the space isn't really empty. If you display nonprinting marks, you will most likely find paragraph marks (which are added when you press Enter).
To show/hide paragraph marks as well as other nonprinting marks, click the ¶ button on the Home tab.
