Hello Stephan, I can see your reply and mine two with the 4 pics in it.
I think if you open the thread from your email about it. It'll show up. I too tried to 'reload' the thread and it still would not update. No idea why it's like this. Thank again for helping. |

It seems that there is a problem with replying to responses far down the hierarchy. Maybe Charles knows more about this.

These certainly look like paragraph borders. That is addressed in the troublesome lines page linked earlier.
You can attach a document (not screenshot) demonstrating the problem if you wish. Attach a Sample File Demonstrating the Problem - Here's How |

I believe am seeing all the posts. This forum runs on old software that is somewhat creaky. I do not know much about it.

Relying on autoformatting to convert a series of dashes into a border is problematic because it relies on option settings and changes behaviour if spaces are involved when the Enter key is pressed.
In an ideal workflow you would remove local formatting from your content and apply styles to consistently apply borders when required. The border setting (above) could be part of the style applied to the first paragraph in a block OR be part of the style (border below) applied to the last paragraph in a block. Removing local paragraph formatting (which includes removing those borders not part of the style) is as simple as selecting the text and pressing Ctrl-Q

We may have discussed this in the past. For me, deeply nested replies seem to disappear, as I wrote. I have tested a couple of different browsers with no change. Strangely, what does seem to work is to open the thread in an "in private" window, without being signed in. This means I can access a reply for which I have received a notification. (Sorry for going off-topic here)

I don't seem to have problem finding latest replies here, as said, opening the thread from my email link.
Now regarding my own problem, and yes it seems to be related to borders. I went to Paragraph border and selected no borders, did not touch the auto correct setting. Returned to my 'faulty' document which by then had no lines at all. Next I went to the end of each of my entries (around 4 to 6 lines) and pressed return then entered 4 dashes that produced, as expected, a horizontal line with the cursor below that line, like I wanted. In a sense this was fixed. But I still get some unwanted behaviours 1) when I deleted the last entry it return to the same situation. That is the previous entry had the cursor trapped above the line. (Although trying to repeat this to make sure this was the case, I could not?) 2) Back to what I call normal I did a return followed by 4 dashes and this time got 2 lines instead of one! But with the cursor below! 3) if I tried to delete one of these double line I ended up with no line between that last entry end the previous one. 4) I also got a blanc space below the line of my last entry and if I tried to move all the last entry to that empty space or delete that space, it cancelled the line too! But if I just keep adding entries it works as I want and done for years. So this is what I want (let say with 3 lines entries): aaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa -------------- bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb --------------- cccccccccccc cccccccccccc ccccccccccccc --------------- And a blinking cursor on that last line NB:Where you see the dotted lines here, actually I got no blanc space in Words like it shows here. Now to fix anything it seems I have to go to option find the right setting and chose if I want it on or off (with a tick) . That would be ok by me if these settings did not get changed by themselves. But all I said before, happened without me changing any settings! What am i missing? |

Charles, it appears that my issue was with the display. Years ago, I decided to choose the "Hybrid" mode for displaying threads. Switching to "Linear" mode means that I can see all replies again.

Mikmmm,
I think what you are describing with regards to paragraph borders is exactly what is discussed in Suzanne S. Barnhill's article Troublesome Lines. One possibility would be to not use paragraph borders and instead set this up as a table. You can add or remove cell borders as appropriate.
