Word has the Master Documents "Feature" with this functionality. However, this is a dangerous feature to use. Please read the link.

If you do use this:
  1. Do not edit any subdocuments from within the Master Document (not even a little).
  2. Base all your subdocuments on the same template.
  3. Keep a backup of your subdocuments on a separate computer or a drive not connected to the computer on which you are using the MD.
